KARORI KITCHEN, DINING AND FAMILY Rooms

This project delivered a new modern kitchen, dining, and family room in an elegant family home in the Wellington suburb of Karori.

The original kitchen and dining room were divided and housed separately behind walls. We removed the wall between the two and relocated the kitchen to the wider part of the single space. This also allowed for a new family area. The structural work united the entire space under a single open-plan environment, allowing the family to remain connected in whatever area they used.  

Also relocated were French doors to allow for greater flow and access outside. The idiosyncratic stovetop is a nod to the client’s passion for rustic adventure, while functioning as an alternative means of cooking.

Additional warmth came courtesy of a timber floor, upon which rests new furniture selected by CMID. Lighting fixtures were chosen to give each area an individual signature in an open-plan environment.

The striking dark green kitchen colour scheme on the custom kitchen cabinets is a client favourite, and is beautifully complimented by the brass fittings and fixtures, along with classic handmade-look tiles.
